Test Yourself with Marathon Stair Climbing
Marathon Stair Climing - The ultimate test of endurance, mental fortitude, and overall body conditioning is here!
What is Marathon Stair Climbing?
Marathon Stair Climbing is defined as climbing a particular set of stairs until the climber reaches 10,000 feet.
The staircase can be situated either outside or inside and should have a minimum of 250-300 stairs per run or take 3-5 minutes to complete.(Full Lap)
Stair Climb Racers would be chip timed in accordance with how many times they would have to race up and down the stairs. A Chip timing station is set at the bottom of the stairs and each time the climber is to ascend up the stairs he/she would scan the chip timer. This would be recorded as one lap. An average time for completion of 10,000 feet climbed would be 2 hours and 30-45 minutes for males 3 hours for females.
Elite climbers can expect to climb the 10,000 feet faster then 2 hours and 30 minutes for males and under 3 hours for females.
The idea here is not to see who is the fastest stairclimber, but who has the most endurance and overall body conditioning.
The Rules on Staircases
The stairs for Marathon racing are different then using towers for stair-racing. Racing a Marathon in a tower is difficult because of the logisitics. If the tower has two staircases competitors can climb up one set of stairs and down the other. If the race is not in a tower with double staircases then here are the basic rules for the use of the stairs in a Marathon race.
-
Stairs must have room for climbers to go up on the left and down on the right. Possible bannister in the middle to seperate runners.
-
Stairs should have a minimum of 250 stairs or take 3- 5 minutes to complete
-
Stairs can be indoors or outdoors
-
If Stairs are indoors then promoters must make sure the stairwell is properly ventilated
-
Stairs can be see through or concrete.
-
The stairwell must have room to accomadate 50-100 stairclimbers or more without any complications.
-
There must be room for a chip timer to be at the bottom of the stairwell to record number of laps done by competitors.
